Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on Friday come to an understanding to share water for the year 2015-16 and a MoU was signed by the Irrigation Secretaries - S.K. Joshi (Telangana) and B. Adityanath Das (Andhra Pradesh).


The MoU was signed on Friday in the presence of Krishna River Management Board officials, Central Water Commission and Union Ministry of Water Resources officials in New Delhi.


MoU includes:


Surplus or deficit water would be shared by both the states with TS getting 299 and AP 512 TMC from 811 TMC ft of water for the present year.


Telangana can utilize water from Srisailam dam for power generation keeping the requirements of downstream Nagarjunasagar Dam along with Srisailam Right Branch canal (19 TMC ft) and Chennai water supply (15 TMC ft) in check.


Both states shouldn’t affect the rights of utilizing their quota of water with the other state while Rajolibanda Diversion Scheme and Kurnool-Cuddapah canal water is restricted to be utilized with specific allotments.


Regular monitoring of inflows and withdrawal of water in the two states will be done by a three-member committee comprising a Krishna River Management Board official and the engineering-in-chief’s of Telangana and AP which will be conveyed to the Central Water Commission.
