Rumours on oral advice to Governor from AG
A reported oral advice of Attorney-General of India Mukul Rohatgi to Governor E S L Narasimhan in the cash-for-vote scam and the subsequent phone-tapping allegations of the AP government sent rumour mills working overtime on the Centre\'s intervention in the matter here on Monday.

The cause of all these was a report in an English channel web site which stated that the Governor was advised by the Attorney-General to use his powers under Section 8 of the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014, and monitor the case directly. However, there were several inexplicable inconsistencies in the story.
First, on the jurisdiction of the AP police in Hyderabad, the story stated that both AP and TS police had a joint jurisdiction in the common capital of Hyderabad, which is far from the truth. Next, at the same time, that it was an oral advice to the Governor on his powers, it stated.
Last was the suggestion that the Attorney General gave this advice to the Governor directly. Dismissing the report as a 'figment of imagination’ the TRS Member of Parliament G Vinod Kumar, wondered whether the Attorney General would not have known that it was Telangana Police alone that had jurisdiction over maintaining law and order and investigating crime even though it is a common capital.
To say that Andhra Pradesh Police too had the powers without any constitutional amendment was ridiculous, he added. On the reports that the Centre was mulling to step in to intervene in what is primarily a corruption case in which the ACB trapped those involved, he said if and when it happens, the TRS would fight it legally.
