Dressed in traditional attire in silk dhoti and kanduva, he offered prayers to Godavari Matha from decorated floating decks in the Godavari. Addressing a large gathering at Pushkar ghat on the occasion, Naidu mentioned that river Godavari is the lifeline of Andhra Pradesh. “Godavari has the capability to eradicate poverty from the State,” he said.


Naidu added that Godavari Harathi would be a regular event in future. Stressing the need for river linkage, he said that river Godavari would play a crucial role in agriculture, irrigation, industry and drinking water sectors in the State. The Chief Minister explained that 3,000 tmc ft of Godaari water which is going waste into the sea could be diverted to drought- prone areas through lift irrigation projects and reiterated that Polvaram project would be completed soon with the cooperation of the Centre and added that merging seven mandals into Andhra Pradesh was a major breakthrough in completing Polavaram project.


He said that the State government was spending about Rs 1,600 crore for Godavari Pushkarams which shows the government’s commitment and affection towards the two Godavari districts. Lauding the hospitality of the people of both Godavari districts, the Chief Minister urged the people to host lakhs of people who are going to visit the two districts for Godavari Pushkarams.


He asked the people to celebrate the event like Sankranti, Deepavali or Dasara festivals in every house. Deputy Chief Minister N Chinna Rajappa, Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, Endowments Minister Pydikondala Manikyala Rao, Ministers P Narayana, Peethala Sujatha, Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao and Chief Secretary I Y R Krishna Rao, Media Advisor Parakala Prabhakar and others were present on the occasion.
