Lakhs of devotees continued to throng various pushkar ghats in West Godavari district. Pilgrims were seen rushing to the ghats to take a holy dip right from the early hours on Monday, the seventh day of Godavari Maha Pushkaralu. All the 105 ghats in the district were packed with pilgrims. Lakhs of pilgrims were seen at the ghats and waiting for their turn to take the holy dip.

20 lakh pilgrims take holy dip on Monday

Kovvur: Lakhs of devotees continued to throng various pushkar ghats in West Godavari district. Pilgrims were seen rushing to the ghats to take a holy dip right from the early hours on Monday, the seventh day of Godavari Maha Pushkaralu. All the 105 ghats in the district were packed with pilgrims. Lakhs of pilgrims were seen at the ghats and waiting for their turn to take the holy dip.


Surprisingly, when compared to the pilgrim crowds on Sunday, the attendance was high on Monday. The VIP Ghat was also filled with pilgrims who came from various places of the State and other states. NRI pilgrims also took holy bath in the river at the VIP Ghat in Kovvur.

It was estimated that till Monday evening, 10 lakh pilgrims took holy dip in Akhanda Godavari in 47 ghats of Kovvur division. The highest turnout of pilgrims was recorded at the main ghat, Goshpada Kshetram. The ghat was filled with pilgrims. Endowments Minister Pydikondala Manikyala Rao took holy dip at Goshpada Kshetram and offered prayers to River Godavari. Later, he performed Pinda Pradanam to his forefathers. Along with his wife, he also conducted Gopooja at the Kshetram.


According to official estimation, about 20 lakh pilgrims visited the ghats in the district to take holy dip and offer prayers. By 6 pm, about 4 lakh pilgrims took holy dip in Narsapuram division. Narsapuram MP Gokaraju Gangaraju visited Narsapuram town and examined the media centre at YN College. He also visited the exhibition organised by the Information and Public Relations Department at the college complex.

Later, he visited the model temples and expressed his satisfaction. In Jangareddygudem division, the main ghats at Pattiseema and Gutala were filled with pilgrims. After taking holy dip in the river at Pattiseema, the pilgrims visited the Veerabhadreswara Swamy temple located on the riverbed. in Gutala, nine ghats were packed with the pilgrims.
