Hyderabad: Agriculture Minister Pattipati Pulla Rao called upon the Congress and YSRCP parties to end their politically-motivated tours in Anantapur, in the name of consoling the families of farmers who had committed suicide under debt burden. Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, the Minister feared that the main opposition leader Y S Jaganmohan Reddy may disturb peace in Anantapur district and AICC vice-persident Rahul Gandhi may create further problems for his Congress party.

He said the number of farmers’ suicides in Andhra Pradesh were only 160, as per the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB). He said that about 890 farmers had committed suicides in the neighbouring Telangana State in 2014. The Minister claimed that the less number of suicides is due to the proactive steps taken by the TDP government like input subsidy, farmers’ loan waiver and other initiatives.

On loan waiver, he said that Rs 1.5 lakh has been given to each family to pay off the debts of deceased farmers and another Rs 3.5 lakh has been provided for the family needs. Pulla Rao questioned Rahul Gandhi and YSRCP chief Jaganmohan Reddy about not mentioning the suicides of about 24,000 farmers during the 10 years of Congress rule in the united Andhra Pradesh. The Minister suspected that Jagan tour is resurrect the factionalism in that district.
