Hyderabad: The ‘beleaguered’ Congress party in Andhra Pradesh has plunged into another crisis. Senior leaders are reluctant to take on the party mantle even as the party high command is desperate to bring in new leadership and revive its fortunes in the next four years.

While the party senior leader and Rajya Sabha MP K Chiranjeevi has declined to accept the APCC Chief post, the others like Aanam Ramanarayana Reddy and Pallam Raju are not too keen to take on the responsibility.

Top sources in the party told The Hans India that Chiranjeevi informed the party high command his unwillingness to lead the party in view of his preoccupation with his 150 th film for which the shooting is likely to begin on August 22, his 59th birthday this year. “Chiranjeevi is not ready to lead the party till 2017. Now a days, he is spending most of his time with film directors to finalise the story for his much hyped film. ”

The names of Aanam and Pallam Raju were considered for the top slot after Chiranjeevi said no. The duo has sought some time to decide on the offer. “The big difficulty before the leaders to accept the post is they will have to resurrect the party from the scratch,” a senior leader from Guntur district said.

Although the AICC president Sonia Gandhi was happy with the present AP chief N Raghuveera Reddy for his commitment to the party ideology and his ‘submissiveness’ to the high command, the increasing shifting of loyalties of the Congress leaders, including former chief B Satyanarayana, to other parties is causing a lot of concern to the high command.

Reddy failed to stop the migration even at the district level. Many secondary level leaders have already left the Congress and joined TDP and YSR Congress parties in the last one year. Following the recent political developments, the party is of the view that the replacement of the present PCC chief with another senior leader will give a new lease of life to the party.

Since Aanam, Pallam Raju and Chiranjeevi are already maintaining a good rapport and also emerged as senior leaders in the State politics, the high command feels that the elevation of these leaders to the top post will help the party. Sources said the change of guard will take place by the end of December. Among other names that are making rounds are of G Harsha Kumar and present APCC vice president Devineni Rajasekhar (Nehru).
