The two-judge PIL bench of the High Court at Hyderabad comprising Acting Chief Justice Dilip B Bhosale and Justice SV Bhatt on Thursday refused to prevent the immersion of Ganesh idols in the Hussain Sagar for the festival this year. The division bench was dealing with a contempt case complaining inter alia that earlier directions of the court on monitoring use of the lake particularly in the context of Vinayak Nimajjan was being violated.

Speaking for the bench, Acting Chief Justice Dilip B Bhosale said, “Already manufactures prepared big size idols and in view of the paucity of time, the court is not inclined to ban immersion in Hussain Sagar” and permitted immersion for this year. While permitting the public interest writ petition, the court asked to file undertakings in the form of affidavit from the government as well as all contesting respondents in the contempt case to explain measures they are going to take to avoid causing pollution during the time of immersion of idols.

The Telangana Advocate General Ramakrishna Reddy informed the court that government was following the earlier judgement of taking out the debris. Not satisfied with the answer of the Advocate General, the court adjourned the matter by two weeks.
