Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu wants the sculptures belonging to the Buddhist centre at Amaravati in Andhra Pradesh brought back to India. More than 70 sculptures from the Buddhist centre are put on display at the Joseph Hotung Gallery in London.

Sources inform that the sculptures were taken from Madras in 1859 to the United Kingdom but were kept in the basement for more than 50 years. They were put on display after Buddhist groups requested them and the museum put the sculptures for visitors' viewing.

Reports suggest that Chandrababu Naidu wants the sculptures brought back and the issue is expected to be taken up the AP tourism department with the Centre.
