At a review meeting with officials of Roads and Building department here on Saturday, Chief Minister asked the officials to study how the road passes through the coast. He suggested construction of bridges on tributaries. He said the coastal road should again be linked to inland waterways.

The Chief Minister said that the State should have pothole-free roads in rainy season. He asked the Superintending Engineers of R&B to respond immediately to peoples’ complaints and repair the roads. Naidu said the R&B department should establish a research wing to study the best technologies and practices in the world to implement them.

He asked the engineers to black list faulty contractors. The department should also take the historical data and analyse the wear & tear conditions of the road, the Chief Minister said, adding that the department should be able to predict when to re-lay the roads based on the analysis of soil condition, rains and traffic.

The Chief Minister said, “My aim is to have world-class roads in the State. Every village should be connected with BT road and every village should have cement roads,” he added. Naidu asked the engineers to arrange surveillance cameras on roads for safety and continuous monitoring.

He asked the officials to explore how to pool in resources to make a difference in the State. Meanwhile, in an effort to create a road grid that connects the hinterland of the State and simultaneously links all district headquarters, the Chief Minister said all National Highways should be linked to ports.

These links with ports will boost port-led development and help the State emerge as a logistics hub. The road connecting Kolkata-Vijayawada-Chennai should have an Outer Ring Road connecting Hyderabad on one side, Bangalore on the other, another with Jagdalpur. This ORR will inter-connect around 7 National Highways, the Chief Minister added.

He asked the officials to appoint a Consultant and explore all shortest possible connecting roads. Not only should there be best roads to the hinterland and ports, we should also have best roads leading to other states, he explained. The Chief Minister suggested connecting Hyderabad-Kalvakurthi-Tirupati as this will be the shortest route to Chennai.

Connect Kadapa-Rajampet-Kodir-Tirupati and explore other connecting options too, he added. Minister Siddha Raghava Rao, Sai Prasad, Secretary to Chief Minister, Secretary (R&B) Sam Bob, Joint Secretary A Rajamouli, NHAI officials and Engineers-in-Chief were present.
