New Delhi: A two-member bench of the National Green Tribunal consisting U D Salve and Ranjan Chatterjee here on Thursday served a contempt notice on the Andhra Pradesh Government, its Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA), urban development and environment and forest departments for going ahead with Amaravati capital construction work ignoring its earlier stay orders.

The bench directed the respondents to file their counter within a week. The bench also sought to know whether, as directed by it, the AP Government had identified the wet lands and flood plains in the region. Senior counsels

A K Ganguly and Guru Kumar appearing on behalf of the AP Government and the CRDA assured that it had been completed.

When the bench questioned as to why the Government ignored its order that no work should be undertaken without proper clearances, they said the Government had all the clearances and would produce them for the perusal of the bench.

But the defence counsel Sanjay Parikh on behalf of the petitioner Srimannarayana, said the court was not told about the same in the last two hearings held on October 10, while an advertisement was issued on October 15 and 16 in local papers by the Government stating that the clearances had been obtained on October 9 itself.
