The Union minister was speaking at a consultation meet on the issues pertaining to migrant women and local domestic workers, organized by the State Commission for Women here Friday.

While pointing out that about there were about 30 lakh women domestic workers across the country, he lamented that majority of them were exploited by their employers by offering meagre salaries and burdening them with extra working hours without even a single off per week. In wake of this, the NDA government is contemplating introducing the National Domestic Violence Act, Employees Provident Fund Act and ESI Act for the benefit of working class, he added.

He informed that the Centre would plan plan out series of programmes, across the country, on skill development for the benefit of women work force.

Meanwhile, Women and Child Welfare Minister Peethala Sujatha lamented that majority of women workers, who go to Gulf countries in search of livelihood, were exploited. She said the TDP government was concerned about them and promised to help them.

Chairperson of AP Women Commission Tripurana Venkataratnam, MP Kesineni Srinivas Nani, ICDS Project Director K Krishna Kumari, Labour Department Joint Commissioner MN Varhala Reddy, Deputy Labour Commissioner N Surya Narayana and others also spoke.
