Vijayawada: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu here on Thursday launched digital literacy programme aiming at poverty alleviation and inclusive growth in the State. He wanted the corporate companies to shoulder the responsibility and help him achieve the target.

The Chief Minister also presided over the government signing 16 MoUs with various corporate companies for entrepreneurship development, marketing, empowering women and overall development of the State.

He said that the initiative would bring the self-help group women close to the corporate companies and help them learn skills like quality products and successful marketing, besides economic planning at micro level. The representatives of the WalMart, ITC, Olam Agro India Ltd, Mahindra and Mahindra were present at the meeting held with the SHG members led by the Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP).

The Chief Minister said that the government had initiated programmes to achieve double digit growth in the State with inclusive growth concept. The government is aiming at women empowerment through Rs 660 crore budget through the SERP, he said and wanted the corporate companies to share the responsibilities through their special initiatives and also through their corporate social responsibility.

Naidu said that the government will provide computers to every home and wants to see one computer literate in every family. The connectivity of the SHGs with the corporate companies would help the women reach out to the global marketing and production technologies, he added.

The WalMart which has been procuring paddy, chillies and spices in Anantapur, East and West Godavari districts and Guntur would provide skill training for women on food processing. The Walmart would also improve its contacts with the SHG women in Vijayawada, Guntur and Rajahmundry stores. It would also start power generation through renewable energy sources.

The ITC with Guntur as its activity-headquarters would work in coordination with the Agriculture University which is coming up in the town. The Olam Agro would work with the SHGs in cashew, cotton, chilllies and rice processing in the State. The Olam would provide the food processing technology for women and empower them in marketing the processed food products.

The National Dairy Development Corporation would help both the women and farmers in the State on animal husbandry and dairy development activities. The Airtel had also come forward to provide assistance to the State government in making women digital literates. The Airtel would provide skill training centres in the revenue divisions and also work with the engineering colleges to use their infrastructure.
