Visakhapatnam: CPI (M) politburo member Brinda Karat will participate in a public meeting – Girijana Garjana- to be held at Chintapalli in Vishaka agency area to oppose the bauxite mining on November 30. The meeting is being organised by the Girijana Sangham, and expected to see large participation of local tribals.

Disclosing this at a press conference here on Thursday, CPI(M) leader Ch Narasing Rao alleged that the white paper released by the State government only touched upon why it should not mine in tribal hamlets rather than addressing the concerns of the local tribals.

He alleged that it was ridiculous on the part of the State government to question why it cannot take up mining in Jerrala area in Vishaka agency area like it is being done in Damanjodi in Odisha.

“Damanjodi does not have habitations in its vicinity, while Jerrala is surrounded by tribal hamlets. Moreover, the latter is protected by Fifth Schedule and tribals alone enjoy all rights on the area,” he explained.
