Tirupati: RDO V Veerabrahmaiah directed the officials working in the mandals to stay in their work places, in view of the alert indicating heavy rains due to depression in Bay of Bengal on November 30 and December 1.

The RDO, who held a meeting with the officials including Tahsildars here on Saturday, said that another spell of heavy rains likely to hit the mandals in the eastern part of the Tirupati division. He wanted them to keep the materials including sand bags, gravels and also JCBs ready at the tanks and constantly monitor the inflow into the water bodies.

The RDO directed the VAOs, VRAs and panchayat secretaries to be available to the people in the villages till the threat of heavy rains was over and wanted them to be prepared along with the Water Users Associations to meet any exigencies in their areas.

He said that the Rapid Response Force has been set up to create awareness among the people in the villages on health and sanitation and also on the measures to be taken up to prevent outbreak of water-borne diseases in the flood-affected areas. The RDO, who reviewed the relief and rehabilitation works in the flood-hit areas, asked the officials to carry out the relief measures in a transparent manner without giving any scope for criticism.
