Rajahmundry: Alleging that the State government was forcibly acquiring land across the State without the consent of land-holders, CPM State secretary P Madhu has threatened to launch massive protests if it does not refrain from the same. He was here in Rajahmundry to inaugurate the party secretariat on Friday. The CPM is planning to organise a ‘Chalo Assembly’ programme during the upcoming budget session on the issue.
Speaking to presspersons after inaugurating a meeting of the party on forcible land acquisitions, he alleged that the TDP government had already evicted people from three villages near Polavaram project site and was planning to vacate people from another three. “The CPM will obstruct eviction of people from their houses. This government had so far acquired 15 lakh acres of land without paying compensation to farmers,” he lashed out. The CPM leader also found fault with the State government signing a MoU with Japan-based Sumitomo Corporation for a 4,000 Megawatt thermal power plant.
“While APGENCO can produce one MW power at the cost of Rs 5 crore, the government has agreed to spend Rs 13 crore for the production of the same in its MoU with the Japanese company,” he wondered and questioned the reason behind doing so. He also demanded for the abolition of Janmabhoomi committees alleging that they were tyrannical and unilateral in their decisions.
