Anantapur: A State-level convention is being organised by the government for the first time here on December 24 to mark the National Consumers Day. It will be attended by representatives of consumer organisations from 13 districts. Consumer activists will be honoured at the convention.

Minister for Civil Supplies Paritala Sunitha announced here on Sunday after holding discussions at a meeting with the officials concerned. She said essay-writing and elocutions competitions for students would be organised in Telugu, English and Urdu on December 20 in the district to mark the day. Boys and girls winning the first prizes would take part in the State-level competitions to be held on December 23. These students would be given cash prizes and commendation letters by the government.The minister asked the district administration to treat the convention as a prestige issue and hold the Consumer Day celebrations appropriately.

G Suresh Kumar , general secretary , State Confederation of Consumer Organisations, District Consumer Organisation president Kadambari Shaik Nabi Rasool, RDO Hussain Saheb and DSO Prabhakar Rao were present at the meeting.

Minister to celebrate Sankranti at native village
Meanwhile, participating in the Jana Chaitanya Yatra at her native village Venkatapuram, Sunitha stated that the ensuing Sankranti festival would be celebrated on a grand scale. Games and sports, besides Rangoli competitions for women would be conducted to mark the festival. She would spend the entire day with villagers. The minister has called upon the people to unitedly strive for the development of Venkatapuram.
