Eluru: West Godavari District Collector K Bhaskar on Friday said responsibility of protection of Bird Sanctuary lands is on wildlife officials alone. He said as per Supreme Court’s directions, the district administration has handed over the lands in 2006 to the forest officials and added that the officials should protect those survey number lands. Bhaskar reviewed the protection of forest lands, bird sanctuary and social forestry with the officials at Collectorate here on Friday and said as per the directions of Apex Court the district administration has identified the fifth contour lands and survey numbers during 2006.

Those lands have been handed over to the wildlife department, he pointed out. The Collector said those lands should not be encroached by anyone and directed the officials to complain against the encroachers to the police. The officials should initiate action to take over those encroached lands immediately and directed forest officials to take action against the encroachments of forest lands in the district.

District Forest officer Srinivasa Sastry, Wildlife Officer Subhadra Devi, Social Forestry officer Y S Naidu, DWAMA Project Director Ramana Reddy, Irrigation S E M Venkata Ramana and others participated in the review meeting.
