Visakhapatnam: Students of Aditya Degree College and members of city unit of SFI blamed the college management for death of second year degree student KP Priyank who died on Thursday.

According to students and the college management, Priyanka came to the college at about 9.15 am and complained of serious dehydration. She was taken to a private hospital where she died at 10.30 am. SFI city secretary USN Raju told this correspondent that though the student complained of sickness, neither the college staff took her to a hospital nor allowed the students to take the initiative.

He demanded an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh to the family members of the student and stringent action against the college management for negligence which led to her death. A massive dharna would be staged in front of the college on Saturday, he said.

College authorities, denying the allegations, said that Priyanka was suffering from migraine for a long time, which was informed to the college management by her father, and on Thursday she took more pills than what was prescribed by the doctor and came to the college.

Her sickness was informed to her father Subhedranath Prasad who came to the college and took her to a hospital. Some of the staff members also accompanied them. But she died an hour later, the college officials said.

Prasad and his wife Sruthi Devi hail from Bihar and came to the city a few years ago to eke out their livilihood. Prasad sells eateries on a pushcart trolley near Marripalem.
