Cops foil VRAs’ ‘deeksha’

The city police foiled the indefinite hunger strike camp of the AP State Direct Recruitment VRAs’ Association here on Saturday. The cops reached the ‘deeksha’ venue at Lenin Centre around 5 pm and arrested the members of the association who were on an indefinite hunger strike since Wednesday (December 16). The agitators were demanding the State government consider them as Assistant VROs and implement the basic pay of Rs 7, 250 per month.

Vijayawada: The city police foiled the indefinite hunger strike camp of the AP State Direct Recruitment VRAs’ Association here on Saturday. The cops reached the ‘deeksha’ venue at Lenin Centre around 5 pm and arrested the members of the association who were on an indefinite hunger strike since Wednesday (December 16). The agitators were demanding the State government consider them as Assistant VROs and implement the basic pay of Rs 7, 250 per month.

Mild tension prevailed on Eluru Road, when the members of the association staged a rasta roko condemning the attempts of police in foiling their indefinite hunger strike. Following a tussle between the police and the members of the association, around 25 VRAs were arrested by the police.

Meanwhile, speaking to ‘The Hans India’ over the issue, AP State Direct Recruitment VRAs Association president VV Mahesh Reddy strongly condemned the arrests of the VRAs. He informed that members of the association would besiege Chief Minister’s camp office and hold a protest near the Assembly to press their genuine demands.
