He suggested the elite and officials to think about the decrease in the girl children birth rate in the district. During 21 years of the enactment of Prohibition of Sex Selection Act, no case has been registered against scanning centers. He said that there was inequality with regard to the gender ratio. This was not good for society, he opined. He expressed concern that even though there were gender determination tests conducted by scanning centers, no case was filed due to non-availability of proof. He asked medical officials to set up special squads to conduct raids on scanning centers besides equipped them with spy-cams and other needy equipment.

District Legal Services Authority secretary A Narasimha Murthy said that the Supreme Court had given priority to the Act implementation and it would supervise the implementation. He said under this Act, non-bailable cases have to be registered. He said if the accused were found guilty, they would be fined up to Rs10,000 and three years imprisonment for the first time. If the same offence repeated, the license would be cancelled besides closure of scanning centre, he said. Indian Institute of Public Health assistant professor and State resource person Ravikumar Varma explained the responsibilities of various wings in implementation of the Act through PowerPoint presentation. District Medical and Health Officer S Vijaya Gowry presided over the meeting. RDOs Srinivasa Rao, Lavanna, DSPs KGV Sarita, Venkateswara Rao and others participated in the programme.
