TTD inks MoU with solar firm

Tiruapti: The TTD has entered MoU with a Kolkata-based solar power firm to set up 10 MW power plant at Kosuvaripalle in Tamballapalle in Chittoor district. As part of this ambitious programme, the TTD has leased out 66.67 acres of its land to Vikram Solar Private Limited for a period of 20 years for the lowest rate per unit ever in the entire country at the rate of Rs 4.49 paise per unit.

Speaking on this occasion here on Saturday, TTD EO D Sambasiva Rao said the firm will generate a minimum of 1.55 crore units of assured power per year on the Build- Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) basis. The savings when adjusted for 11kv tariff will be Rs 4.27 crore per annum approximately. He stated that they can meet about 66 to 70 per cent power needs of Tirumala once the project is commissioned.

“We have asked the firm to complete the project within six months and after the completion of the lease period they will handover the land and the equipment in the same working condition to the TTD,” he added. TTD Chief Engineer Chandra Sekhar Reddy, Vikram Solar Director Krishna Kumar Maskara and other officials were present.
