Vijayawada: Minister for Municipal Administration P Narayana came down heavily on MP K V P Ramachandra Rao, who stated that Amaravati may face Chennai fate in case of floods. He said that the Congress leader has been trying to create panic among people with his baseless comments.

The Minister said that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has been taking all measures to build world-class capital Amaravati. He asked the engineering officials to assess the flood discharge during the last century. When officials said 16,000 cusecs of flood water was discharged, the Chief Minister asked them to prepare designs for the discharge of 25,000 cusecs of flood water to prevent inundation of capital region, he added.

The Minister said that the State government would start construction of capital city after getting necessary environment clearances. He said that there is no truth in the Congress leaders’ allegations that the government is planning to give away the land to Singapore companies.

Narayana said that the Congress party has taken lakhs of acres of land from farmers and distributed it to private parties, whereas the TDP government has been planning to allot plots to farmers who offered lands under land pooling for capital development.
