On early hours of Wednesday, 80-odd forest personnel tried to dismantle a fish pond dug by farmers and breach the tank. Villagers rush to the spot and heated exchanges lead to detention of officials in community hall.

Villagers at the Community Hall, where forest officials were detained.Tense situation prevailed in Pydichintapadu, a Kolleru village in Eluru rural mandal on Wednesday as the forest officials tried to dismantle the fishponds in the village. The villagers detained 80 forest officials and personnel in a community hall for over three hours.

On receiving information, the Divisional Forest Officer (Incharge) Venugopala Rao, Assistant Beat Officers B Yesebu, Krishnamraju along with 40 forest personnel reached Pydichintapadu, Kolleru Lake in Eluru rural mandal in the early hours on Wednesday. They found that the villagers dug fish pond in 20 acres of land and converted another 20 acres into house sites. They tried to dismantle the fish pond in the village but ended up breaching the fish tank to some extent.
Knowing about the forest officials intervention, hundreds of villagers led by village elder Saidu Satyanarayana, Sarpanch Mungara Venkateswara Rao reached the fish pond area and obstructed the officers and personnel. They surrounded the forest officials and personnel and started arguing about their rights and heated discussions led to severe tension in the area. Villagers took all the 40 forest officials and personnel to the community hall in the village and locked them inside
At the same time, Eluru rural police on information reached the village and tried to pacify the villagers. As their attempted failed, a battalion was deployed by police officials. After hectic efforts of police, the villagers stepped back in the afternoon leaving the detained forest officials. After that the forest officials complained to the Eluru Rural police against the villagers’ high-handedness over the duty officers. The DFO (Incharge) Venugopala Rao complained to police against the detention of the villagers. Eluru rural SI Kishore babu registered a case against the villagers participated in the detention.
