Lam Farm (Guntur): Scientists of Agriculture Research Station (ARS) have advised farmers to apply their mind on tackling as well as preventing the spread of white flies that have been spoiling chilli produce not only in Guntur district but also in Prakasam, Kurnool and Krishna districts. “The white fly virus is rampant in the districts.

While pesticides are being used to tackle the disease, the best way is to prevent the spread and breeding of the white flies. The flies are breeding due to favorable climatic conditions. The flies normally take shelter in the weeds surrounding the chilli plants. The weeds should be rid of the chilli farms and by doing so would be making them homeless and breeding-free,” they said.

The scientists are advocating integrated pest management techniques to banish the virus from the farms. Farmers should use purified seeds washed with Immidakloprid chemical solution. Use of chemicals and pesticides should be minimised, they said.
