Visakhapatnam: Chief of Naval Staff Admiral R K Dhowan said the International Fleet Review is the most significant event for the country to pursue ‘Look East’ policy and maintain good relationships with the six neighboring littoral States.

Addressing a press conference soon after commissioning INS Kadmatt at the naval dockyard here on Thursday, Dhowan said 52 countries have confirmed their participation in the International Fleet Review being held here from February 4 to 8. When asked about the participation of Pakistan Navy, the Navy chief said as of now, it was confirmed that Pakistan is not coming.

To another question on showcasing India’s first indigenously built nuclear submarine INS Arihant currently under development at Ship Building Centre, at International Fleet Review, the Admiral said “No Comment,” but added that INS Kadmatt would be a showpiece at the review.

Dhowan said President of India Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Manohar Parikar and a host of delegates across the country will take part in the review. He said Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will inaugurate the maritime exhibition, one of the biggest events of its kind, which will showcase various entrepreneurs in the maritime domain.

The IFR village at Andhra University Engineering College grounds will feature a range of gastronomical delights and cultural extravaganza to provide feast to the eyes of the visitors. President of India Pranab Mukherjee would review the fleet on February 6.

The following day, a two-day international maritime conference would be inaugurated by Defence Minister Manohar Parikkar on the theme 'Partnering together for a secure maritime future'. The evening of February 7, will witness the operational demonstration followed by the International City Parade which would include marching contingents and bands from the army, navy and air force and coast guard.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the gathering and will also release a book on the maritime heritage of India.
