Tirupati: The CPM had resolved to step up its mass movement (Praja Udyamam) for the integrated development of the backward Rayalaseema region. Accordingly, the party will conduct `bus yatra’ in the four Rayalaseema districts in February and `Chalo Assembly’ in March to build up the public opinion to achieve the main demand of special allocation for Rayalaseema in the State budget for pending projects, development of agriculture, industries, employment, health and education for its development.

Speaking to the media here on Wednesday, CPM State Secretary Madhu accused Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu of totally ignoring Rayalaseema, where he said the agriculture is in crisis. Institutional credit facility collapsed while private lending (finance) also ceased for agriculture, he said, adding that loans by banks to SHG women groups have also declined significantly aggravating the crisis. He regretted that there is no hint of any industries coming up in AP. Though foundation stone was laid for Mannavaram project during the UPA regime, it is yet to take off. And the steel plant promised by the government in Kadapa has been put in backburner.

The sugar factories including private and coop sector are closing one by one, he said, presenting the gloomy picture prevailing in Rayalseema. He further said that public health care and education have also weakened due to poor allocation of funds by government which is on the move to hand over the government hospitals including teaching hospitals to the private sector. The Chittoor hospital has already been handed over to Apollo Hospital, Madhu pointed out. Adding to the woes of the people, the government is forcibly taking over their lands for land pooling in the name of development, he said citing the acquisition of lands in various districts.

Madhu said that the party cadre is getting ready for the bus yatra to be conducted in the four Rayalaseema districts on February 15 and 16. He appealed to all sections including intellectuals, other Left parties and social organisations to support the movement to force the government take suitable steps for Rayalaseema development. CPM Rayalaseema coordinator Obulesu, Chittoor district secretary K Kumar Reddy and others were present. Later, Madhu held a meeting with party functionaries from the four Rayalseema districts on Bus Yatra and Chalo Assembly campaign.
