Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) spokesman, Kolanukonda Sivaji, here on Friday, blamed the Telugu Desam MPs for not taking up the special category status issue with the Central government.

In a statement, Sivaji found fault with the TDP MPs for staging a protest at the railway meeting held in Vijayawada on Thursday. He said that the TDP MPs protest at the railway meeting was only to divert the attention of the people from main issues like special category status for the State, special package for the backward regions of Rayalaseema and north Andhra and filling of revenue gap for the State after bifurcation. He said that both the Telugu Desam and the Bharatiya Janata Party have promised special category status for the State during the elections. However, after coming to power, the two parties are keeping mum and were not speaking about the promises.

The Congress leader wanted to know why the TDP and BJP MPs were not speaking about the special category status for the State. He wondered why the leaders who have promised to give special category status for 10 years are now silent. He asked the TDP MPs to stage a protest in front of the Prime Minister’s office and get the packages promised to the State at the time of bifurcation and also during the elections.
