Farmers feel exploited by middleman

Eluru: In yet another incident, a middleman was found indulging in fraudulent practices while purchasing maize from farmers in their fields. About 40 farmers have claimed that a middleman cheated them by not paying money for their produce even after three years.

The farmers led by Denduluru MLA Chinamaneni Prabhakar met Eluru Range DIG P Harikumar on Sunday and narrated their disheartening tale to the latter.

The middleman was identified as Challagolla Vayunandana Prasad of Kalarayani Gudem in Lingapalem mandal. The farmers said that Prasad used to supply maize seeds to them and in turn used to procure farm produce from them. Despite procuring the produce, Prasad has not returned Rs 25 lakh owed to us, they added. Later, the farmers also lodged a complaint with One Town police station. After being exploited for over three years by the middleman, the farmers demanded the government to rescue them from the clutches of the agent.
