Stage set for cockfights in Kolleru
Stage set up cockfights at several places in Krishna district including Kolleru region despite of ban on cockfights. Villagers are bringing pressure on TDP leaders to organise the cock fights during Sankranti festival despite the ban. People are getting ready to prepare cockfight arenas at islolated places including mango gardens and island areas of coastal region.
Vijayawada: Stage set up cockfights at several places in Krishna district including Kolleru region despite of ban on cockfights. Villagers are bringing pressure on TDP leaders to organise the cock fights during Sankranti festival despite the ban. People are getting ready to prepare cockfight arenas at islolated places including mango gardens and island areas of coastal region. Villagers are said to be arguing in support of cockfights as permission was given to Jelli Kattu in Tamil Nadu.
It is learnt in Kolleru region stage set for cock fights at Bujabalapatnam, Kolletikota, Alapadu, Bhairavapatnam, Chintapadu, Avukuru, Vanuturu, Vadapalli, Kopavaram, Varahapatnam and other areas. Some people are trying to inaugurate the cockfights by the elected representatives including Ministers. However the cockfight activity came down in Avanigadda region. Villagers are preferring to conduct the cockfights in islands of Nagayalanka region to avert police raids. It is said that the cockfight admirers reach the islands in coastal region through boats.
The organisers are getting ready to conduct the cockfights in Sunkollu of Nuzvid mandal, Sobhanapuram of Agiripalli mandal, Janardhanavaram of Chatrai mandal and Gogulapadu of Musunur mandal of Krishna district. Cockfight enthusiasts started reaching the cockfight areas in advance as the activity would be carried out in full swing in all the regions for more than a week. The cockfights would be organised on a prestige note in majority of the villages as both the ruling and opposition leaders extend support.
