Kakinada: Deputy Chief Minister N Chinarajappa called upon the farming community to adopt organic farming to sustain the activity and for better financial results.
Inaugurating an 8-day State-level farmers’ training programme at Badari Institute in Sarpavaram of Kakinada rural mandal on Sunday, the Deputy Chief Minister disclosed that the State government has initiated several measures for double digit growth and as part of this programme, has decided to give special attention to agriculture.
He hailed the services of Subhash Palekar who is associated with the 8-day training programme on natural farming. He appealed to the farmers who are taking part in the training programme from across the 13 districts of the State to derive maximum benefit out of the programme. Speaking on the occasion, Agriculture Minister Prathipati Pulla Rao reiterated that the State government’s intention is to make agriculture a profitable activity. The Minister also said that in the year 2016-17, natural farming will be taken up in 3.12 lakh acres in the State. “We are planning to take up the activity in 10 lakh acres by involving 10 lakh farmers in the next five years,” the Minister said.
He pointed out that 6,000 farmers including 1,500 women farmers were brought to the 8-day training programme by dividing each district into 10 clusters.
Pulla Rao called upon the farming community to follow the best farm management practices which are being adopted by Subhash Palekar in his home State Maharashtra and secure the best results through natural farming.
Addressing the farmers, Principal Secretary of Agriculture T Vijay Kumar said that the State government has initiated several measures to make agriculture a profitable activity.
Agriculture Director T Dhanunjaya Reddy, East Godavari ZP Chairperson Namana Rambabu. Kakinada rural MLA P Ananta Lakshmi and District Collector H Arun Kumar also spoke.
