Anantapur: Youth should take the responsibility of enrolling all those above 18 years as voters, stated Collector Kona Sasidhar while speaking on Monday at a function organised to mark the Sixth National Voters’ Day.
He observed that everyone should take upon self to ensure that all have voting rights, by enrolling as voters. The town still recorded a low voting percentage of 42. Only when educated, employees and businessmen compulsorily voted there was a possibility of something good being done for people.
He stated that the flaw of dual votes has been rectified after linking details with Aadhaar cards, thanks to the efforts of booth-level officials, Tahsildars and RDOs besides the Collectorate staff. Such efforts have led to the district securing the first place.
Superintendent of Police Rajasekhar Babu called upon new voters to ensure election of good persons as people’s representatives. District Judge Subramanya Kumar stated that 70 per cent of new voters were getting
themselves enrolled online.
District Election Vigilance Forum president Shaik Nabi Rasool said voter awareness programmes have been organised for making people not to succumb to allurements.
Earlier, a rally of college students, led by Joint Collector II Syed Khaja Mohiuddin, RDO and Trainee Assistant Collector Sumeet Gandhi, among others, was taken out from Saptagiri Circle to Telugu Talli statue, with stress on enrolment of voters. The officials administered a pledge to them that they would vote without fears.
The Collector, SP, District Judge and Trainee Collector honoured voters like Gurumurthy Reddy, Ramakka, Vannuramma (105 years), Dattatreya (85), Lalemma (82) with shawls for voting without a break.
The chief guests handed over certificates as best electoral officers to Tahsildars Sankarayya, Ramakrishna Reddy, Ramadevi, Nagarajulu of Vidapanakallu, Tadipatri, Peddapappur and Gandlapeta respectively.
They presented certificates to Best Deputy Tashsildar in Collectorate Bhaskara Narayana, Puttaparti and Dharmavaram DTs Nagarjuna Shetty, Ashwata Narayana, best BLOs Nalinidevi (Guntakal), Narayanaswamy (Veerannapalle), Ratnamma (Sodanapalli), Radha, Lakshmidevi (both Anantapur), Prameela, Lalitamma (Kalyandurg), Sridevi (Madakasira), Aruna (Hindupur), Nagasesh (Puttaparti), Swarna Manjari, Nazeer (Kadiri).
The chief guests gave away the first three prizes to winners of elocution competitions to B Bharat, R Rekha Pravalika, A Udaykumar (seniors), school students M Swati Yadav, C S V Archana, G Akhil (juniors).
The first three winners awarded prizes in quiz competitions were: (seniors): M Anil Kumar, M Udaykumar Reddy, B. Bharat, (juniors) N Harinath Reddy, M Sunil Kumar, I Mahesh.The winners in drawing/painting to get first three prizes were: K Roshan Zameer, Y Somaraju and B Jayasri.
