The 27th Road Safety Awareness Week celebrations conducted by the Regional Transport Authority (RTA)

Vijayawada: The 27th Road Safety Awareness Week celebrations conducted by the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) concluded on Thursday with a rally highlighting the message of responsible behavior on roads and compassion to fellow road users.

Many students participated in the rally carried placards and raised slogans about the need for following traffic rules. The rally was flagged off by the Deputy Transport Commissioner V Sundar near RTA office on Mahatma Gandhi Road, which passed till Benz circle and culminated as a meeting near IGMC Stadium.

Addressing the gathering, at the valedictory session, Sundar said that most of the road accidents occur due to indiscipline driving and negligence of the drivers. The week-long road safety week focused on explaining the road safety measures to the denizens such as the need for wearing helmets, avoiding drunk driving, use of cell phone while on wheels, wearing of seat belts, use of dazzling head lights, and compliance to road rules. Special drives will be conducted in the educational institutions as the youth are the best source to spread the message to the society, he said.

Later, the DTC also distributed prizes to the winners in the various competitions conducted as part of the week-long road safety campaign. Regional Transport Officers (RTO) M Purnedra, S Venkateswara Rao, Team leaders- V Srinivas, M Rajubabu, and all Motor Vehicle inspectors were also present at the valedictory session.
