​ Kukunoor: The left parties demanded the State government to take up the construction of Polavaram project only after providing a better package to the displaced in the Agency areas.

The team of left parties led by CPI Secretary K Ramakrishna and CPM State Secretariat member V Umamaheswara Rao visited the villages in Kukunoor and Velairpadu mandals of West Godavari district on Friday.

Later, Ramakrishna and Umamaheswara Rao addressed the public meeting at Church Hostel ground in Kukunoor village. They accused the Centre and State governments of showing discrimination towards the people of Kukunoor and Velairpadu mandals in Khammam district of Telangana that merged with West Godavari of Andhra Pradesh, as they come under the submergence zone of Polavaram project.

They said that Polavaram project had hit the people of Kukunoor and Velairpadu mandals the most, as they are being treated as non-locals and denied education, health, employment, roads, drinking water, housing and other benefits.

The duo demanded the government to give same compensation to all the displaced people under Polavaram project as per the GO 262 of Pattiseema and GO 788 of Polavaram right canal. The left leaders warned the government of intense agitations if they failed to implement the same compensation.

CPM West Godavari district Secretary B Balaram, Secretariat member Manthena Sitaram, CPI district Secretary Dega Prabhakar, Nekkanti Subba Rao, Md Muneer, Karam Darayya and others were also present.
