Eluru: The AgriGold Agents and Victims Joint Action Committee and Andhra Pradesh AgriGold Victims Association jointly called upon the victims and agents to take up relay hunger strikes outside district collectorates all over the State from February 22 to 29. The joint meeting of JAC and the Association was held at AgriGold office road in Powerpet of Eluru city on Sunday evening. The meeting was presided over by the Association President N. Tirupati Rao.

The speakers said that the arrest of the company’s chairman Avva Venkata Rama Rao and managing director Avva Venkata Seshu Narayana was just eyewash. They demanded the government to hand over the case to CBI as it involved victims from across the country. They found fault with government announcing that it would auction “small assets” of the company, and said that it was not correct on its part.

They demanded the government to auction all the properties related to AgriGold Company management and persons of that family, and do justice to the victims. They also requested all political parties to support their agitation set to begin from February 22. They stated that the JAC would hold dharnas also in all over the State and said that they had sent letters to the Chief Justice of High Court seeking justice. The meeting also decided to form Agrigold victims’ teams in every village and town.

They criticised that the government for dragging its feet on ensuring justice to the victims for over two years, even though the discrepancies in AgriGold came to light in 2014 itself. The victims alleged that the government had brought in CID into picture and arrested the main accused fearing High Court; sensing that perhaps it might order the case to CBI. The leaders stated that there are five lakh victims and the company collected 10,000 agents in West Godavari district alone and about Rs.200 crore deposits.

The leaders suggested the victims that they have to see how their money could be recovered from the company. The meeting demanded the government to attach all the properties of the Agrigold chairman and family members, who attained the age of 18 years and above. The leaders urged the victims and agents not to commit any suicide. The Andhra Pradesh AgriGold Victims Association Vice President P. Seshagiri Rao, JAC Chairman V. Yashayya, Vice president Yarra Venkateswara Rao addressed the agents and the victims.
