Visakhapatnam: Embrace the Green Building principles by spreading through various Student Chapters of Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) to help conserve natural resources, observed MP K Hari Babu.

While launching six Student Chapters of IGBC, a wing of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) here on Monday, the MP emphasised the need for applying Green Building principles to all structures including school buildings.

Protection of natural resources is the responsibility of every organisation, he added. Chairman of IGBC Prem C Jain informed that three billion sq ft of green spaces have adopted the IGBC Green Building Standards and this has enabled India to be recognised in the international map of Green Buildings.

Informing that the growth has been made possible with the support of all stakeholders, he said it was targeted to facilitate 10 billion sq ft of registered Green Building Footprint by 2022.

Local Chapter chairman S Vijaya Kumar said this was the first time that IGBC has launched six student chapters at one go.

‘We will launch 20 more student chapters soon to sensitise student community to play a catalytic role in the design of Green Buildings’, he added.

Co-chairman of local chapter K Leela Prasad assured that IGBC would support the students to become IGBC accredited Green Building professionals. The Student Chapter launched in Gitam University in February last, was awarded with the Best Student Chapter at the national-level.
