No respite from pig menace

They even killed some pigs wandering in the city. However, pig breeders promised the officials that they would not allow the pigs enter the city. 

Eluru: The people in Eluru city and surrounding villages are severely facing problems with the pig menace. The pigs are wandering on the streets in the City creating panic among the public. The pig menace not only limited to Eluru but also spread to rural areas surrounding the city.

In Eluru, the pig menace was high in Powerpet, Gandhi Nagar, Kothapeta, Chepala Thumu Center, Tangellamudi areas. The pigs are digging the municipal drains and the garbage heaps on the roadside. With this, the people are suffering from mosquito bite causing epidemics like encephalitis, malaria and other diseases.

In 43rd division, happens to be the Mayor’s ward, the pigs are wandering everywhere creating panic among the passers-by. The municipal public works department recently conducted a special drive to kill pigs wandering in the city.

Some time ago, the pig breeders requested the officials not to kill the pigs as they won’t send them to the city. After two months, again the pigs entered the city causing panic among the people. Though MLA Badeti kota Ramarao warned the pig owners, the menace continue to haunt.

Interestingly, farmers in rural areas are also suffering from the pig menace. The farmers of Komadavole, Vanguru, Chodimella and other areas are witnessing the pigs in their fields. The farmers fear that the crop may damage as the pigs entering their fields.

Recently, in Vanguru village, a farmer was electrocuted at the wired fence erected in neighbouring fields to prevent pigs from entering. The farmers from Komadavole also witnessed the same problem with the pigs. A Ramaiah, a farmer from Komadavole village nearby Eluru city said ‘The Hans India’ that pigs were entering into the agriculture fields in his village.

“We tried to control the pigs from entering our fields, but unable to get the rid out of them. I even used pesticide tablets mixing in the banana fruits to kill those pigs,” he added.

Another farmer Lakshmana Rao from Vanguru village, where a farmer electrocuted, said, “We have to save our crops from the pigs. We are left with the option of killing the pigs”.

The pig breeders are earning lakhs of rupees on the pigs. They are selling a pig for a price in the range of Rs 7,000 and Rs 10,000, the local people in the tangellamudi area said.

“We have received complaints from the public on the pig menace. We cannot sit quite on this menace. We will curb the menace soon as it is posing a danger to the public health,” he said.
