‘Krishna district ahead in direct benefit transfer’

Vijayawada: Central Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) Cabinet Secretary Peeyush Kumar praised the initiative of officials in implementing the DBT successfully in Krishna district.

Addressing a review meeting of officials and bankers here on Saturday, the Cabinet Secretary said that the officials in Krishna district were able to save Rs 8 crore by implementing e-POS in Public Distribution System. He said Krishna district alone would get Rs 13,000 crore towards various welfare schemes and the bankers should adopt interoperable system for transparency in providing benefits to the beneficiaries directly.

District Collector Babu A said that the e-POS system is being implemented successfully in the district. He said pensions are being distributed at doorstep by adopting iris and biometric system. The Collector said the Pulse Polio programme was implemented and vaccines were administered to 5.9 lakh children in the district. The Collector asked the bankers to appoint bank coordinators at all the regions for effective implementation of welfare schemes and distribution of direct transfer of benefits to people. Joint Collector G Chandrudu and others were present.
