The arrested head constable was identified as Appalaswamy Dora who is working with the crime wing of  Pendurthy Police Station.

Visakhapatnam: The officials of local office of the Anti-Corruption Bureau caught a head constable red-handed while he was demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 18,000 from a van operator, here on Tuesday. The arrested head constable was identified as Appalaswamy Dora who is working with the crime wing of Pendurthy Police Station.

DSP of ACB K Ramakrishna Prasad said Dora had recently seized a van belonging to one Mary. She runs it to transport scrap material collected by the rag pickers and delivers it to scrap merchant in the city. After seizing the van, Mary approached Dora and asked him why here van was seized. Head constable, in turn, accused Mary of transporting stolen material and even said that the van was stolen. Later, she produced the documents of the van, but the head constable refused to release the van.

Dora also alleged that the van papers were fake and demanded a bribe of Rs 20,000 for releasing the van. On Monday, he approached her and the deal was fixed for Rs 18,000.

Upset with the demand, Mary approached the ACB sleuths who laid a trap for the head constable. On Tuesday, Dora came to Mary’s office on a motor cycle and asked her to keep the money in the cover and put it on the petrol tank. After receiving the money, he handed over the vehicle papers and asked Mary to take away the van. The ACB officials, who were present on the spot in mufti, immediately arrested Dora. They seized the bike and the cash. Dora will be produced before the ACB Special Judge on Wednesday, the DSP added.
