Party senior leader and former Union Minister U V Krishnam Raju hails allocation of funds for Kakinada-Pithapuram railway line
Kakinada: The Bharatiya Janata Party has been concentrating on developing its own base in entire AP to gear itself for 2019 polls and if the situation warrants, the party will go alone in the next elections, said party senior leader and former Union Minister U V Krishnam Raju.
Speaking to media here on Saturday, the veteran film actor who had earlier represented both Kakinada and Narsapuram constituencies in Lok Sabha, made it clear that the BJP is keen on continuing its ties with alliance partner the TDP both at the Centre and in AP.
Commenting on the funds allocation to various Central-sponsored projects in AP, Krishnam Raju observed that as per his knowledge, though funds to the tune of Rs 86,000 crore was pumped into various schemes in the State, the NDA government was not given enough credit.
“There has been widespread resentment and concern in our cadre on the issue and we are very much hopeful that the situation will improve in the days to come,” he said. Clarifying on the visit of BJP national president Amit Shah to Rajahmundry on March 6, the veteran BJP leader said that it is a part of a planned visit to four places in AP to strengthen the party and the first of these four visits is to Rajahmundry, he clarified.
Expressing happiness over funds allocation to Kakinada-Pithapuram railway project, he said that it took 18 long years to get the allocation, though the project was cleared in the year 1998 when he was representing Kakinada as LS member. Krishnam Raju alleged that his successor after the mid-term polls in 1999, did not make any efforts to get the release of funds to the tune of Rs 100 crore for Kakinada-Pithapuram rail project though the railways had come forward to release the same.
Commenting on reservations to Kapus, he said that the BJP favours it without disturbing the existing reservation pattern for other castes. BJP State general secretary Suresh Reddy, AP Kisan Mocha general secretary Narasimha Reddy, party district unit president Y Malakondayya and senior leader U Venkata Ramana were present.
