YSR Congress MLA Roja has moved to the Supreme Court over her suspension from the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly. An urgent hearing was requested by Roja's counsel senior advocate Indira Jaisingh so that the MLA could participate in the ongoing budget session of AP Assembly but the case was pushed to further hearing to examine the reasons for her suspension.

Roja was suspended by Assembly Speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao on December 18 for a year for making unparliamentary remarks against Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

In her petition, Roja said that the maximum period for which an MLA could be suspended was only till the remainder of the session of the House that was completed on December 22. The MLA even stated that her suspension was by a voice vote. The suspension is likely to come up for hearing on Friday or Monday.
