Hyderabad: Land row rocked the Andhra Pradesh State Assembly on Wednesday during the discussion on motion of thanks to Governor’s address and led to challenges and counter-challenges between Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Leader of Opposition Y S Jaganmohan Reddy.

Irked over the repeated allegations by Jagan that huge scam had taken place and that ministers like P Narayana and P Pulla Rao had purchased chunk of land under benami names in the capital region, Naidu demanded that the leader of opposition should prove the allegations and give the survey numbers of the so-called benami land.

“If Jagan can prove the charges, I will sack my ministers right now,” he said. If the leader of opposition fails to prove he should offer unconditional apology to the Assembly for indulging in smear campaign. In fact, Naidu even went to the extent of saying that the proceedings of the House cannot move forward unless the issue was sorted out.

Unrelenting, Jagan threw a counter-challenge saying that Naidu should state if he was ready for a CBI probe into the allegations he had made. Jagan further alleged that Naidu had resorted to “Insider Trading” in violation of his “Oath of Secrecy to Office”. He even said that the CRDA headed by the Chief Minister has turned into “Chandrababu Real-estate Development Authority.” An angry Naidu rebutted the allegations and refused to agree for a CBI probe.

Naidu said that Jagan was deliberately trying to create confusion among people and wants CBI probe so that the process of development in the capital region and the state in general would come to a halt. He said no scam had taken place in acquiring land for the capital and nothing can stop him for going ahead with the project.

This led to protests from the Opposition members. They refused to resume their seats despite repeated requests and appeals by the Speaker when Minister for Legislative Affairs Y Ramakrishnudu moved a motion asking the Speaker to close the debate. Amidst ruckus, Ramakrishnudu moved another motion suspending 47 members of YSRCP from the House for the remaining part of the day.
