New Delhi: A delegation of two Ministers from Andhra Pradesh Kamineni Srinivas, Minister of Health, and Bojjala Gopalakrishna Reddy, Minister for Environment and Forests, Science and Technology, Cooperation, urged Union Minister for Urban Development M Venkaiah Naidu here on Monday to ensure interim relief to people migrating from Kolleru area in the absence of employment opportunities there.

They explained to him that the Andhra Pradesh Assembly had passed a unanimous resolution to downsise the Kolleru Wildlife Sanctuary from +5 to +3 feet contour and since the process was time consuming, an interim relief should be provided to the people migrating from that area.

Venkaiah Naidu reportedly asked Prakash Javadekar, Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, to respond positively by restoring the 137 cooperative fish farming societies granted by the former Chief Minister of AP, Jalagam Vengala Rao which existed prior to the launch of Operation Kolleru.

Speaking to the media later, Maganti Babu, TDP MP, said providing livelihood to those dependent on fishing on Kolleru was an election promise of the party. He said he was happy that the Centre positively responded to the demand.
