Hyderabad: High drama was witnessed at the Andhra Pradesh Assembly on Friday as the Assembly secretariat refused to allow YSRCP MLA from Nagari R K Roja to enter the Assembly to participate in the proceedings of the Budget session though the High Court had given an interim order setting aside her suspension from the House for one year.

While YSRCP members protested against the ‘autocratic’ decision of the Speaker and submitted a memorandum to Governor ESL Narasimhan, the government filed a petition before the division bench of the High Court opposing the interim stay given by a single judge. The bench posted the matter for hearing on Monday.
Meanwhile, Speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao circulated the copies of the High Court order to the members and said that since the House had unanimously suspended one of the members (Roja) on December 18 for one year from the House for making certain gestures and passing inappropriate comments towards some MLAs in the Assembly, the House will have to take a decision on the court’s order.
In yet another development, the privilege committee has decided to meet on Saturday to discuss the issue of Roja’s suspension. The committee has asked Roja to appear before the committee. They also asked TDP MLA Anita to be available. Anita alleged that Roja had made certain objectionable remarks against her. “Roja had made disparaging comments on my caste since I am a dalit woman,” she said.
Earlier, opposing the decision of the Assembly secretariat not to allow Roja to enter the House, the YSRCP staged a protest on the premises of the AP Assembly on Friday for an hour. They have now decided to go to the Assembly in black dress and obstruct the proceedings on Saturday.
As Roja accompanied by party MLAs came to the Assembly, Chief Marshal Ganesh told them that the Speaker had directed them not to allow Roja into the House. Jagan who was there entered into an argument with the marshals. Waiving the copy of the judgment, he demanded that they (marshals) show the written orders issued by the Secretariat or the Speaker instructing them not allow Roja inside the Assembly.
The officials, however, did not budge and insisted on Roja leaving the premises. Roja tried to enter the Assembly through Gate 2 along with her lawyer but the police prevented them. Jagan then tried to take the lawyer inside in his car but he too was blocked saying lawyers were not permitted. "I have my right to take anybody inside. They can come to my chamber. I will send my pass," Jagan told the police officials. But the marshals told them that they cannot allow her.
