Vijayawada: The government’s move to shift the administration from Hyderabad to Amaravati by June had finally taken a new shape. The Secretariat employees and the Heads of Departments (HoDs) have agreed to move out of Hyderabad in a phased manner. However, they have asked the government to add two additional floors to the temporary Secretariat building being constructed at Velagapudi to accommodate the HoDs. The government too had agreed to the request and would issue orders shortly.
Earlier, the government had asked the HoDs to look for accommodation either in Vijayawada or in Guntur as they were providing accommodation for the Secretariat staff. As finding office and residential accommodation on their own was not possible, the employees requested the government to provide additional space for them in the new Secretariat.
The government is racing against time to complete the construction of temporary Secretariat buildings at Velagapudi. The 6 lakh sq ft buildings are expected to provide accommodation for the Secretariat employees, besides providing space for the Legislative Assembly and Council to hold their next sessions here.
“We have agreed for shifting in two phases. The government had also agreed to add two additional floors to the temporary secretariat to accommodate the HoDs,” said APNGOs president P Ashok Babu. He further said that they would soon take up department- wise review to identify the departments and the staff to be shifted in a phased manner.
When asked about the cases like staff nearing retirement age, spouse working in other State or Central organisation and children’s education, Ashok Babu said that these issues would be taken up during the review of the HoDs. He said that while the Secretariat employees would move out of Hyderabad to the new capital by June, the HoDs would relocate to Amaravati in two phases.
The first batch of the staff is expected to be shifted by July-end, while the second batch would shift by August. The government had also agreed to provide three bus services from Guntur and Vijayawada for the employees to reach Velagapudi. The APNGOs Association is also making arrangements to find suitable location for residential accommodation for the staff. “We are on the lookout for group apartments in Guntur and Vijayawada at reasonable prices. We have already identified some apartments and would look for more,” said APNGOs Krishna unit president A Vidya Sagar.
