Pattiseema (West Godavari): The Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Scheme (PLIS) has not only created a record of being the only project in country that was completed within the time and budget but also saved crops worth Rs 2,500 crore in the Krishna delta during kharif season.

While formally inaugurating PLIS on Monday, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said that it came to the rescue of Krishna delta during the rabi season to protect crop worth Rs 2,500 crore by supplying of 8.5 tmcft of Godavari water. “We have launched it to save the Krishna delta and supply water to Rayalaseema as the Polavaram project construction would take two more years to complete,” he added.

Naidu apprised that if 80 tmcft of Godavari water was diverted to Krishna during rainy season, it would help to stabilise the ayacut of Krishna delta, thereby paving way to supply water to Rayalaseema region. Expressing his confidence that Polavaram project would be completed by 2018; the CM said both the Polavaram and Pattiseema projects would boost the economy of the State.
The PLIS was commenced on March 29, 2015 and was completed on March 28 and is believed to boost the morale of TDP leaders to counter the criticism of opposition on irrigation projects.

Administrative sanction was accorded on January 1, 2015 and work awarded to Mega Engineering and Infrastructure Ltd (MEIL). The scheme has a total 24 motors to discharge 8500 cusecs of water. Expressing happiness over successful completion of the project MEIL MD Krishna Reddy said that though they have taken up several projects across the country and abroad, Pattiseema is a unique project and was completed in record time.

Speaking to The Hans India, former Minister for Agriculture Vadde Sobhanadreeswara Rao said that water released from PLIS saved the crops in Krishna district to some extent during the last kharif season. “Farmers saved their crops by lifting water from Bandar canal using oil engines, if the water supply would be more, it would help to stabilise the ayacut,” he added.
