In an apparent move to counter the stinging opposition parties alleging the State government neglected projects in Chittoor, the district administration geared up the works on Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanthi (HNSS) project.

Madanapalle: In an apparent move to counter the stinging opposition parties alleging the State government neglected projects in Chittoor, the district administration geared up the works on Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanthi (HNSS) project. District Collector Siddharth Jain along with senior officials of Irrigation department, on Thursday inspected the ongoing works in Madanapalle area and sought the contractors to speed up the works to complete them as per schedule.
Irrigation superintendent engineer Muralidhar Reddy said that to speed up the work, the government is spending more than the budget allocation. Reddy said that the government had allocated Rs 100 crore in 2014-15 for HNSS works in the district but it had spent Rs 272 crore. In 2015-16, Rs 540 core was spent against the budget allocation of Rs 212 crore he said indirectly indicating that the opposition charges of poor allocation to the project was baseless. The Collector said that 3 more boomers (drilling machines) will be added from April 10 to speed up the tunnel work of HNSS canal at Katralapalli in Madanapalle rural mandal. So far, digging of 200 metre tunnel was completed against the total length of 500 metres.
He said that the land acquisition in the 62 villages through which the HNSS canal meander was completed and about 1,900 acres of land was completed in these villages. While the land acquisition in 7 villages in Kuppam and 10 in Gudupalli is nearing completion with the active involvement of people’s representatives persuading the farmers for giving up their land for the canal.On the other development initiatives, Jain said that 400 km-long cement concrete road was completed in rural areas while 600 km-long cement concrete road was proposed in 2016-17. The total internal cement concrete roads proposed were 1600 km in the district. Informing that Rs 100 crore was allotted to the district for repairs to check dams and tanks, he said the works will be taken up involving the water
associations.
The Collector said that there is no dearth of sand for construction. Efforts are on to identify sand reaches in every mandal and also release posters about sand reaches for the benefit of the public, he said a task force headed by the Joint Collector has also been set up to check illegal transportation of sand. He said that public can complain on phone to police control room about illegal transportation of sand and added that the police and revenue authorities will work jointly to prevent sand smuggling to other states, he added.
