Eluru: In a bid to shed off allegations of illegal sand sale against them, Eluru and Denduluru MLAs Badeti Kota Ramarao (Bujji) and Chintamaneni Prabhakar seized 20 sand-laden trucks at the Eastern locks in the outskirts of Eluru city on Thursday. It is alleged that the sand in these trucks is being sold for as much as Rs15,000 per truck instead of mandated Rs7,000.

Prabhakar has warned that if anyone found practicing unfair rules in selling sand, their vehicles would be seized. A sand-loaded tractor should not exceed Rs 1,400 and a lorry of 15 cubic meters should not be more than Rs7,000, he added. Denying any connection with illegal sand transportation, he clarified that he would take severe action, if anyone would be found naming him in this issue.

Stating not to commit such acts again, the involved truck owners requested the MLAs to leave their seized trucks. Bujji has directed the truck owners to sale it at Rs7,000 per lorry to the poor. Both MLAs have also discussed the same with RDO Namburi Tej Bharath.
