TDP urged to contest in Tamil Nadu elections
Tamil Nadu Telugu Yuva Sakhi (TNTYS) leader K Jagadiswar Reddy urged the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) to contest in Tamil Nadu elections which are scheduled for May. Jagadiswar Reddy on Saturday met TDP National President and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu in Chittoor and submitted a representation on behalf of TNTYS seeking the TDP to contest in the elections.
​Tirupati: Tamil Nadu Telugu Yuva Sakhi (TNTYS) leader K Jagadiswar Reddy urged the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) to contest in Tamil Nadu elections which are scheduled for May. Jagadiswar Reddy on Saturday met TDP National President and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu in Chittoor and submitted a representation on behalf of TNTYS seeking the TDP to contest in the elections.
In the representation, Reddy said that the Dravidian parties not only failed to protect the interests of the 2.40 crore Telugus living in Tamil Nadu, but also trying to force the students from primary to high school level to write examination compulsorily in Tamil affecting the students of linguistic minorities, including Telugus, who are largest linguistic minority in the State.
Against this backdrop, Reddy wanted the TDP to field candidates in the elections in the 60 constituencies where Telugus are in a position to decide the winning chances of a candidate. Though some Telugus were elected as MLAs of the two Dravidian parties, they were keeping mum in protecting the Telugus interests, the only way is the TDP contesting the elections, he said.
In Chennai, Telugu voters are a deciding factor in 10 Assembly segments, while in other districts, including Tiruvallur, Vellore, Krishnagiri, Salem and Coimbatore, they are predominant in two to five constituencies, he pointed out.
