In order to reduce interference of the officers with the tax payers, he said, facilities have been made for re-registration, e-payment and e-filing and assesses need not to visit the offices of the division.

He said service tax division at Nellore was formed on October 15, 2014 as part of Nellore Commissionerate.

The official said 600 service providers registered with the department after formation of the division as there was phenomenal growth in service sector in the region and stated present assessee base is around 3,300.

During the financial year 2015-16, Nellore service tax division alone contributed 71 per cent of the total service tax revenue of Rs 445 crore and major chunk was from Krishnapatnam Port that stands to be Rs 176 crore. The other major tax payers include S V Engineering Constructions, GRN Constructions Pvt Ltd and Narayana Learning Private Limited, he explained.

Rahman said the Nellore division had earned Rs 315 crore revenue during 2015-16 and it was Rs 298 crore during 2014-15. The downfall was due to natural disasters in the district during last year.

The Commissioner said Wednesday is designated as Tax Payers Day for Nellore Commissionerate, wherein tax payers can contact heads of various wings without any prior appointment in order to resolve their grievances. He said that they had proposed to convene meetings at regular intervals with the trade and all stakeholders in respect of goods and services tax.

“We are expecting more revenue from the district as it was part of Visakhapatnam-Chennai and Chennai-Bangalore industrial corridors. Port also became a crucial player in generating revenue for the division,” said Commissioner.
