Though unofficial accounts put death due to sunstroke in the district at 36, authorities have confirmed only one death. Unprecedented heat wave conditions prevailed in the district with the district recording day temperatures between 40 and 43 degrees Celsius in April.

Hot air is blowing right from 8 am under the impact of sun beating down severely. The people are dreaded to venture out of their homes. Till 8 pm, the people are not able to get respite from the heat. Because of the severity of the heat, the senior citizens and children are facing trouble. People are not willing to step out of their homes unless there is an important work.

What is so special about this summer is total absence of drinking water booths. The doctors have been advising people to consumer liquids like butter milk and coconut water. They are advising people not to go out unless it is so important for them, that too, with an unmbrella. District Medical and Health Officer has confirmed a death due to sunstroke.

She is sensitising people at eight urban centres besides bus and railway stations on how to avoid the sunstroke. Also, ORS packets are being distributed. District Collector has instructions to officials through video conference to tell construction workers, agricultural workers and NREGS workers to complete work between 8 am and 10 am and to take rest till 3 pm.
